A videographer after my own heart.  I liked Dave Matthews Band in High School; they’re even from my home town.  But it wasn’t until my college roommate’s obsession rubbed off on me that I started using the lyrics of the songs to explore life… And now?

I won the opportunity to photograph Dave Matthews Band back in 2004; that is my DMB claim to fame.  Standouts from that experience are:

  • I left during opening act to go to car and get my gear.  I remember walking up the stairs of the stadium while ben harper sang “I can change the world with my own two hands. Make a better place with my own to hands…”
  • I remember the kindness of the photographer with Rolling Stone Magazine (he contrasted exquisitely with the sharp, cold words of the main band photographer). Despite our 3-song limit for photography, the Rolling Stone photographer was geninunely interested in helping me.  Not only did he take the time to answer my questions about best white balance settings and ISO (auto white balance and 800 ISO); he also came up to me half-way through to say the lights were brighter than he anticipated so I could probably bump my iso down by a third stop or so (bumping it down means less grain and artifacting).

Enthusiasm and genuine interest… I think that’s the gold of our existence… That, and the ability to step back and have a good laugh at ourselves. Hope you enjoy.
